Facebook advertising doesn’t work.
It’s amazing to me that when I talk about the possibility of bringing in new clients or patients with social media for a practice or business, I hear from owners the following, Facebook advertising doesn’t work because:
- It’s just boosting a post or
- It’s just a pretty picture on Instagram or
- Nobody watches Youtube
- My clients aren’t on social media
I’ll get my office manager to do it, my teenager at home can run my account or the new hire that just got out of college to do this. Or I’ll do this, “I have time.” The biggest lie we tell ourselves is I’ll have time.
Do you really want to become a social media expert? Trust me it can be done. You won’t get the education from a community collage course. It will come from the old school way of trial and error. Your going to need a learning curve to be proficient of a year or so if you spend 15-20 hours a week at it. That’s time you can spare correct?
Well let’s break this down. Let’s start with, Facebook advertising doesn’t work.
83% of businesses that have tried getting new clients on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube have failed. They didn’t even make their ad spend back. Why is this you ask?
I will tell you, 100% of the time it is because of lack of skill set.
I work with a lot of very successful business owners who have this problem.
Face it; you went to school to learn how to be that awesome specialist. The thing they don’t teach you is sales. If you’re a Dentist or Orthodontist, you buy an existing practice or you join a practice to build up your patient base. Then there are those brave few who start from scratch. Chiropractors are typically the same.
Let’s look at the facts.
- Facebook has almost 2 billion users, yes that’s a 2 with a B.
- Instagram has 700 Million users and grows ever day
- YouTube is the 2nd biggest search engine with Google being 1st. If your not doing video today you are already behind the curve.
So kind reader, are you saying that your audience isn’t out there?
Depending on your audience, demographic determines where you place your ads.
Facebook, Instagram and YouTube give you the opportunity to place yourself in front of patients and clients that are more likely to need your services.
Are you a Dental practice looking for more patients. In this case we might look at moms as a target along with other factors such as how far are people willing to drive, income and do they have children.
Med spa’s, the client that normally comes in for Botox? Is it the 18-25 year old male and female? Of course not!!
Cryo therapy companies and Chiropractors. Are you looking for the one and we’re done person and you just love using Groupon? Of course not, you’re looking for people who need care and will come in weekly. Might they be people in chronic pain or participate in sports or have a specific issue. Are they male or female and what age group are they?
If you offer high ticket items in your practice and people are considering dental implants, Invisalign, Breast augmentation, Cool Sculpting etc. Wouldn’t you think a potential client might do research before they start looking at getting the procedure done? Did you know they would probably do that research on YouTube? After they leave YouTube how does your practice stay front of mind?
What are you doing to bring patients/clients in consistently? What marketing are you doing that if you spend x you make x.
I get it. Everyone has different goals. They feel their reputation precedes them and clients and patients will just show up because…well “you’re the best at what you do” or is it I just want to grow organically?
I also get many of us have been burned by over promises and under delivery from marketing firms or you don’t believe it will work for you. It doesn’t have to be this way. Social media advertising if done correctly will do several things for you.
- It will bring in measurable and predictable results.
- When I say measurable you will know which customers come from your advertising because at a minimum you will be given there name, email and phone number as they come in.
- Immediate ROI (return on investment)
Let me ask you this. How many new patients/clients a week would make a difference? What is your number? What are you doing about it? Better yet if you have a marketing firm what are they doing about it?
